There’s truly no limit to nail art’s creativity. If you can imagine it — and you have the ability to paint on very tiny canvases (or know a talented nail artist who does) — you can turn it into a manicure. In just the last few weeks, we’ve seen water-drop nails, designer patterns like Billie Eilish’s Burberry plaid nails, and crocodile-pattern nails. As unlimited as the ideas may be, however, certain concepts keep popping up, like the dreamy, magnetic-polish galaxy nails that recently went viral. But another nail artist is proving there’s more than one way to do a space-inspired manicure.
A nail artist by the name of Tal recently shared her take on “galaxy nails,” and while it’s nothing like the shimmering, multidimensional version of the manicure we fell in love with a few weeks ago, it’s just as cool.
“A hint of #galaxy ✨I love this #minimal look and you know I’m obsessed with negative space,” she wrote in the caption. She’s referring to how only a fraction of each nail is painted in black polish — Black Swan by GA-DE — in a different, wavy-edged shape that touches only one or two sides of the cuticles, topped with white “stars.” The vast majority of each nail is left bare, just polished in a clear topcoat.
As artsy as it looks, it’s easier to DIY than you may think. “Negative space is my favorite style and I love galaxy designs so this is the perfect combo for me,” Tal tells Allure. “To create this look, I drew black lines and colored them with black polish and then I stamped the white stars.” That’s right — the most detailed part doesn’t have to be done by hand. She used Born Pretty’s white stamping polish with the Maniology x Kelli Marissa stamping plate full of lots of celestial designs.
It just goes to show that there are not only many ways to create an incredibly cool galaxy manicure, but they’re all relatively easy to do, too.
